I am Agi Taflinska, a lampshade designer based in Marseille, France. This concept began with the image of a lamp suspended in the air, surrounded by an interior "garden." A lamp that moves with the wind, constantly evolving, changing its shape, and illuminating its surroundings.
Through an exploratory process, I delved into the use of high-quality materials, such as paper, while also researching raw yet flexible materials like wood and reed bands. While the Floating Lamp idea embodied motion and its foundational meaning, the full concept unfolded over time as I experimented with blending different styles, shapes, and materials.
The MoNUII Lamps Collection: Minimal, Organic, and Inspired by Nature
The MoNUII lamps collection is a harmonious blend of minimalism and organic design, drawing inspiration from the natural world. Alongside the basic line of fully customisable lampshades, MoNUII offers diverse and creative approaches such as 'Words on Lights' and 'Colours & Patterns,' designed to create truly unique pendant lamps.
What sets MoNUII’s lampshades apart is the opportunity for personalisation. As with 'Words on Lights' approach customers can choose sentences, words, or even custom patterns to adorn the lampshades. These words are incorporated into the design as repeating motifs or subtle accents, transforming each lampshade into a poetic artifact. Whether it’s a favourite quote, a meaningful phrase, or a collection of evocative words, the text becomes an intrinsic part of the lampshade’s design.
Ideas come to me when I create with my hands
I was born in Poland and have lived in many European countries over the years. The ever-changing ground beneath my feet is reflected in my constant pursuit of evolution, novelty, and boundless exploration of diverse design mediums. As a multifaceted designer, I embrace versatility and adaptability in my work.
I believe that my innate curiosity and spontaneity come from approaching the world with an open mind, observing something, and observing it again, which can lead to the birth of something new.
Ideas come to me when I create with my hands in everyday life. Paper is an incredibly versatile material. It can be used in countless ways, and yet, objects crafted from this medium still manage to surprise and inspire me.
For many years, I have been captivated by handmade and individually coloured or painted paper, as well as the traditional Japanese use of paper in interior design—such as sliding doors, walls, and lamps. I am equally inspired by the Japanese art of paper folding. Transforming a single flat sheet of paper into a three-dimensional object without relying on complex industrial processes requires a mastery of manual skills and an appreciation for the material's potential.
This exploration of paper’s possibilities is both a challenge and a joy, driving me to continuously push the boundaries of what can be achieved with this timeless medium.
The Art of Playful Creation
During the creative process, I like to let go of structured design methods and focus on exploration. By simply playing and observing, I allow the physical properties of materials to guide me. I study how a material looks and "behaves," utilising its natural shape, elasticity, and inherent beauty to craft a unique object.
This approach to design offers me a sense of freedom and often leads to unexpected and delightful outcomes. Once the first lamp takes shape, new ideas begin to flow effortlessly.
Today, I am happy to share the results of this creative journey and hope that my lampshades will illuminate and bring warmth to your space.
